Traffic jams featuring cows and elephants. Just another day in the life of a basketball player in India

By Jeremiah Boswell

Beep! Beep-Beep!!! Car horns were playing the incessant tune that can be heard in any bustling city. As a professional basketball player, I have had the opportunity to hear that sound in more than 10 countries. While I have been fortunate enough to see so much of the world, as I traversed the city of Delhi through South Extension, I was overwhelmed with the cacophony of activity.

How PeacePlayers is making a difference in the Middle East

By Danny Ourian

PeacePlayers International has three main tenets that it lives and works by – words so integral to the organization's mission that they're written on its logo: changing perceptions, bridging divides and developing leaders. We believe that if we are doing these three things, we will be successful. The third goal – developing leaders – has been embodied over the past two years in the Middle East in part due to the emergence and growth of our Leadership Development Program (LDP).

PeacePlayers is working in areas once deemed unreachable, thanks to sports such as basketball.

By Danny Ourian

Over the course of the past two years, I have had the wonderful opportunity to work as a program director in the Middle East affiliate for PeacePlayers International (PPI).  The organization is a non-profit group that uses the game of basketball to unite and educate children and their communities. It was founded on the simple, yet powerful notion that "children who play together can learn to live together."

A look at how an Australian girls basketball team took America by storm

The trip's itinerary wasn't different from any other team that visits a foreign country. The mission was clear: play basketball and take in a few sights. Along the way, this team of high school girls' basketball players from Australia would learn lessons that will last a lifetime. After all, separate the winning from the losing and you remember that sports are about inspiring our youth.

The universal language of basketball

"JJ" Chen was born, raised and still lives in Wenzshou, China. He is in the furniture hardware distribution business. I happened to sit next to JJ on a recent flight from New York to Beijing. As I stowed my bag and sat down, I was grateful he spoke a bit of broken English – enough to communicate but not enough that he might talk my ear off the whole trip. Besides, even if the language barrier didn't exist, what could JJ and I possibly have in common? We come from such different backgrounds, heritages, countries and careers. Until he showed me Wenzshou on a map, I had no idea it existed.
