4-Man Toe-Turn Passing

Crafting the perfect pass

The 4-Man Toe-Turn Passing drill can help you dish the rock with precision

Take a close look at every good shot and you will most likely see a good pass that set it up. Working the ball in and around the defense takes as much practice as crafting the perfect shot. With the help of the 4-Man Toe-Turn Passing drill, you can start working on that Steve Nash-like passing game.

The drill, available on the On Court Player Development® Virtual Trainer, emphasizes body control and pivoting while incorporating passing. It also involves several defensive-minded skill sets, such as having the players on the outside use defensive slides down the court. Here’s how it is done.

1. Have four players line up in a straight line across the baseline – with one player in each corner and one on each block. Each player on the block must have a ball.
2. The players with the ball must make a pass with their outside hand and land on their outside foot.
3. Next, have them make a toe-turn front pivot, run diagonally to the opposite side and catch the ball on their outside foot. They should make another toe-turn pivot to go back to the other side.
4. Continue the drill all the way up the floor.
5. The outside players will perform defensive slides all the way down the floor as they pass the ball to their teammates.

While doing the drill, make sure to land and pivot on your toes. Also, the outside players should perform defensive slides all the way down the floor, while the inside players make each pass with their outside hand and land on their outside foot.

Common mistakes involve players not performing a toe-turn pivot back to the other side, not passing with their outside hand and landing on their outside foot. OC
