War Rebounding

The art of war.

If you’re going to be a strong rebounder, you must be prepared to battle under the boards. Here’s how to get it done.

The most underrated player on the floor is the one who does all the dirty work – paving the way for those drives through the lane, setting picks and rebounding. All these skills take a dedication to toughness and finesse, especially rebounding.

The War Rebounding drill will help build your rebounding footwork. The drill is an intense drill designed to focus on rebounding and scoring the basketball with contact. It teaches you to be strong with the ball and how to get used to all that physical play down low. War Rebounding also teaches you the conditioning necessary for fighting for the ball when you’re tired.

To perform the drill, you need three to four players to get inside the paint. Next, the coach will intentionally miss a shot, which enables each player to fight for the rebound. Whoever grabs the rebound tries to score.

The players will continue to fight for the rebound until somebody scores.

If the ball touches the ground at anytime, the coach must throw another ball off the rim. Each player must keep track of his own points.

Remember, be physical, but don’t commit any flagrant fouls. Go hard after each rebound and try to steal the ball when you don’t get it. Always be strong with the ball and expect to get fouled on every shot and rebound attempt. The key is to fight through the fatigue.

And when you grab a rebound, take your shot from inside the paint. Don’t take any outside jumpers. The goal is to score from within the paint. OC
