Half-Court Passing Shot Series

When it comes to honing your game, the Half-Court Passing Shot Series is your ace in the hole.

Fact: Basketball comes down to three things: footwork, passing and shooting. With the Half-Court Passing Shot Series, you can work on these aspects. The drill is designed to help you learn to start-and-stop and change direction with and without the ball. It also emphasizes a number of pivots, which will help improve your balance and body coordination.

To get the drill rolling, start with the ball at half-court – have the cutter begin on the right corner of half-court and the passer on the circle. Have the passer dribble toward the cones and make a crossover bounce pass on his inside foot to the cutter. The cutter will sprint to the cone, make a front pivot on his outside foot, receive the pass and perform the following shot series: lay-up; quick-stop; duck-in; up and under; two-step step back; opposite foot step-back; and a jump shot.

While doing the drills, make sure the passer keeps his head up; stays low and pivots on his toes. Also, the cutter must sprint to the cone, pivot on his outside foot, stay low, pivot on his toes and catch the pass.

During the shot series, make sure to explode toward the basket on the lay-up and keep the ball on the side of your body. On the quick stop, keep your shoulders and feet square to the basket and shoot a semi-hook away from the defense. For the duck-in, plant your inside foot toward the basket and reverse pivot on your outside foot.

While performing the up and under, plant your inside foot toward the basket, reverse pivot on your outside foot, fake the shot and explode on the lay-up. On the two-step step back, plant and push off your inside foot onto your outside foot and take the shot off your outside foot. For the opposite foot step-back, plant and push off your outside foot and land on both feet for the shot. On the jump shot, make sure to go right into the shot after the pivot. Don’t take any extra dribbles. OC
